What Makes This Recipe So Great
Helpful Chef Tips
- Let the bread soak in the custard mixture for at least 20 minutes before baking.
- Bake until the top is golden brown and a knife inserted comes out clean.
Step 1
Heat the milk in a saucepan until it just comes to a boil. Take out 1 cup of the milk and set it aside.
Step 2
Add the cardamom powder to the hot milk and give it a good whisk to combine.
Step 3
In a separate bowl, mix the custard powder with the reserved milk until it’s smooth and lump-free.
Step 4
Pour this custard mixture back into the saucepan with the hot milk. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until it thickens—about 2-3 minutes.
Step 5
Stir in the chopped nuts, then take the pan off the heat and let the custard cool.
Step 6
In another bowl, mix the cream with the powdered sugar. Spread this creamy mixture evenly over 4 slices of bread, then cut each slice into 4 pieces.
Step 7
In a small bowl, combine some milk and sugar. Quickly dip each piece of bread in this mixture for just a second on each side.
Step 8
Arrange the bread pieces on a plate, pour the custard over them, and sprinkle with extra nuts and a few strands of saffron if you like. Serve and enjoy!
